The Stages Of The Green Card Application

Here are the steps to generally meet when applying for a green card and easy Visa processing made simple. Remember that applying for a green card depends on each person’s situation.

  1. Make sure you are eligible. The application for a green card is a complex procedure, and your status in the territory of the United States may be called into question if your application is refused.

Speaking to a green card lawyer el paso tx or DOJ (US Department of Justice) accredited representative is important before applying. There are attorneys and non-profit organizations across the country that will help you.

IMPORTANT: Even if you are automatically eligible, there are certain circumstances, including being involved in criminal activities, that may call your application into question. A legal representative can help you choose the best options for you.

  1. Petition for the visa (if necessary). In most cases, the person sponsoring you (a family member or an employer) completes a visa application for you; this is called sponsorship. If you are a refugee or asylum seeker, you can skip this step and apply directly for a green card from USCIS. See more about this process below.
  2. Request. Once USCIS approves the petition and a visa becomes available in your category, you will need to either file an Adjustment of Status Application with USCIS or a Consular Process Application with the United States.

You must pay a filing fee when you file your application or a fee waiver request. If your request is rejected, you will not be reimbursed. It is, therefore, important to apply only if you are eligible. (Note – this fee is waived for refugees).

  1. Answer questions for evidence (if you are questioned). After submitting your application, you may be asked to provide additional documents or explanations. Not all referrals will be subject to a search for evidence.
  2. Biometrics. You will be given a date to provide your fingerprints, photos, and signature.
  3. Interview. Finally, in many cases, you will have an interview with an immigration or consular official before a final decision is made on your case.
